John Story PT, MPT, CSCS

From a young age I realized I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. I have always been the person people came to for help. My interest in the profession was somewhat a calling. I began my educational journey to accomplish my goal, and it started at California Started University Long Beach. I studied Biology as an undergrad where I further fell in love the human body and how it works. I was able to receive my Masters in Physical Therapy from California State University Long Beach a few short years later.

I have worked in many settings since I have graduated. Hospital based outpatient clinic where I was able to work with all types of people from cardiac rehab, joint replacements, neurologic conditions and pediatrics. I work for a private outpatient clinic which was mostly orthopedics. Finally I worked at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute where I helped people in the hospital setting after having knee/hip replacements and spine surgeries.

I am always trying to learn new techniques so that I can better help my PTs. I currently a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2013. This allows me to help better progress/regress PTs through exercises. Also allowing me to better determine when someone is safe to return to sport or specific activity.

I treat all my PTs as individuals. I use an Evidence Based Practice approach to my craft. This allows me to always do what is proven ethically and the gold standard of care so that my patients can get back to their normal day to day life efficiently and safely.

I was born and raised in sunny Southern California. I now call Texas my home, Proudly. I enjoy keeping active through outdoor activities, the gym and playing with my two children. I thank my family every day to have the opportunity to be theirs because there is nothing more important than family.

I am a compassionate, helpful, cheerful, and fun-loving individual who derives immense satisfaction from bringing joy to those around me. I was born and raised in Ahmedabad, India, where I also obtained my Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from the esteemed Ahmedabad Institute of Medical Sciences.

My decision to pursue this noble profession as a career stems from a dual source of inspiration. Firstly, my innate curiosity for comprehending the intricacies of human anatomy has fueled my passion for this field. Secondly, my fervent desire to contribute to the relief of human suffering aligns closely with my overall personality. What particularly appeals to me about physiotherapy is its emphasis on non-pharmacological interventions, focusing instead on addressing impairments through gentle techniques that enhance physical mobility, including thorough examination, physical intervention, and other modalities.

My journey throughout my undergraduate program has been profoundly enlightening. It has allowed me to acquire in-depth knowledge of various subjects, including Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Pathology & Microbiology, Pharmacology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Exercise Therapy, Electrotherapy, Kinesiology, Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Physiotherapy in Rehabilitation, Cardiopulmonary and Surgical conditions. As part of our curriculum, my fellow students and I were assigned to government hospitals and private clinics for our clinical training. This experience provided us with invaluable exposure to the field, enabling us to work with patients and implement treatment protocols across different departments, such as cardiology, orthopedics, and neurology.

I believe I possess a unique blend of experiences, having treated a diverse range of patients with varying morbidities and backgrounds in terms of age, gender, and regional characteristics. These experiences have honed my professional skills and my ability to establish trustful relationships with the patients I serve. Proficient in English, Hindi, and Gujarati, I recognize the importance of language in patient care, ensuring comfort and effective communication for those who prefer their mother tongue.

Subsequently, I pursued my Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Western Michigan University. During this period, I engaged in courses that enriched my knowledge, including Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aquatic Therapy, broadening my expertise in the field.
